If you are looking for a printer that can handle all the printing needs of your work group, the HP Color LaserJet 5550n printer may be just what you are looking for. Even though you may pay a little more for this printer than for other large laser printers you will find that it is an excellent option for producing many high quality color prints using LaserJet 5550n printer toners.

The documents that you produce using this printer are very high in quality. The printer is equally efficient at printing text, black graphics or color prints using HP laser toners. Black prints offer smooth transitions and great fine detail. If used to make color prints, the machine will offer prints, which have excellent detail and color that is vibrant and rich but do not sacrifice the realistic tones. This printer is very fast at producing color prints. However, you may find that it is a little slow when compared to other printers at producing text prints.

The machine was originally designed for use with Windows XP. HP says that the current version is designed for use with Windows 7 and that using with older versions of Windows may cause the printer to lose some of its functionality. With the changes in the programs, it is likely that there will be little if any loss of function.

Setup of the printer is fairly easy. It does sometimes take longer than setup of other printers. It is likely that other versions of Windows that are being used will recognize the printer. The longest part of the setup process is the installation of the driver.

Included with the printer are a couple of paper trays. The standard tray will accept up to five hundred sheets of letter-sized paper. In addition up to one hundred sheets of paper may be loaded into the multipurpose tray. This tray holds all standard sized papers up to the size of a tabloid sheet. You can also purchase three optional trays to add to the printer that each will hold an additional five hundred sheets. Thus the total capacity of paper held in the machine is 2100 sheets.

The machine comes with 160 MB of memory installed on the printer. This RAM is expandable to 544 MB. Processor speed is 533 MHz and an additional 20 GB hard drive may also be installed. This additional memory allows for storage of frequently used documents or watermarks. Documents stored in the memory can be printed from the console directly.

As with most other laser printers, the HP Color LaserJet 5550n printer makes copies for a lower cost than for similar prints using an ink jet printer. The prints made using a laser printer are waterproof and will not be ruined if it accidentally comes in contact with water or in high humidity. The prints are produced quickly and are crisp and clean.
