Create a website: Advice for the Online Businessman
To create a website can be a long and sometimes difficult process, but the rewards are worth the effort. If you're looking to put up a site for your business, it can help you get more customers through the door. There are some things, however, that you'll need to consider when you want to make your website. Take note of the following tips:
1. Ask yourself - what you want your site to do for you? Some online newcomers usually aren't very sure what they want to put on their site, so it helps to make a plan first. Is the site simply to give information about you and your business, so you can tell casual inquiries, "just look at my site"? Or will you be doing something more complicated, like offering feedback forms and online purchases?
2.Don't put all of your information up front. Many sites are guilty of information overload: too much content all at once, so that when the potential client logs on, he's immediately flooded with info. But also consider that your average user loses interest after reading only a few lines of text. Put only the most important information on your front page, and divide the rest into chunks that your client can process, one at a time. If everything is well-presented and displayed with the client's comfort in mind, those big ugly text-filled pages shouldn't end up in your site.
With this goal in mind, keep your pages divided into categories when you create a website. Put only the information that your clients need to know - your services, maybe a testimonial or two, and contact information. Organize your information into pages, and make separate sections for each. This will keep each page clean, and contain only the information pertinent to your clients' needs.
3.It's all about readability. Not only does your site have to be well-organized, but it should also be easy on the eyes. Avoid large, brightly-colored letters (in net etiquette, large fonts and capitalizing all your letters is tantamount to screaming at people). Keep your colors tasteful- reading on a monitor already places enough of a strain on the eyes, without your use of wild colors or big letters splashed across the page.
4. Finally, update your site as much as you can. This is especially important is your business is in an industry where there are always new items and techniques. So if you want to create a website that you intend to update often, you may want to look into content management systems. If, on the other hand, your site just lists information that won't change anytime soon, a simple static website will probably be a good idea.
To create a website for your business may improve your profts. But to do so, you have to design an effective site. It helps to first determine what exactly you want your site to do for your business. This will determine the content of the site. Also remember to keep your layout clean, and easy on the eyes. To keep users from getting bored, don't present too much information all at once.
