Create A Website But Don't Skimp On The Quality

by Tem Balanco

Almost everyone has an online presence these days. This can mean anything from having personal, professional and journal webpages to being on a social networking page. People can have websites for their businesses, their personal interests or almost anything else. The best way to take the most advantage of this is to know how to create a website. Many innovations in online living make it easier and faster for those who are less technically inclined to do this, especially by internet portals, but knowing how to do it all yourself is always better.

Knowing how to create a website is no longer the province of the technical or "geeky". You don't need to know a lot of design theory, high end computer knowledge or lots of website design theory. But you do need to be able to stick with reading a couple of books, willing to work hard and able to learn new tricks to web design.

Evaluate your website's needs and focus. Try to get unbiased second and third opinions as well, enlisting people that aren't directly involved in the project to give you their feedback. It's possible that they may catch design or technical flaws that you have missed. Also, them being involved will make the process go by faster. You're maximizing the time it takes to create a quality website.

Buy a primer on web design and read it thoroughly. Then practice small tasks using an open source web design software package. This will not require any additional investment. After gaining confidence, you may choose to buy server space and create a test website. This is akin to creating a sandbox version of any software.

The practice of mentoring is very valuable to learning almost any skill. Perhaps you have a friend who is experienced with developing web portals, and who can help you to create a website. Through mentoring, you will not have to make the same mistakes as your friend did when did developing his or her website.

During the design phase of the project, makes sure that you pay attention to details and don't just gloss over them. Look carefully at the design templates you're using and make any small changes that they might need to fit the content located on the pages of your site. This will make sure that there are no problems when visitors try to navigate between pages in your site.
