Barter Exchange Can Increase Your Business

by Terry Lamb

Barter exchange can truly help increase your business, so do not think of it as slight loss of income. After all, it's called barter exchange since you receive something in exchange for services you give away. When considering barter exchange to meet new customers and to build a new business, begin by thinking about what you truly need. When you trade products or services, you'll be happy with the deal if you receive something you can really use or something that you want.

After locating the objects or skills you want to barter for, you have to make up your mind what you're willing to offer, and how much the trade is worth. You won't feel that the trade is just unless there is equivalent value given to both parties. After you've reached parity, the swap should leave your mind at ease.

It's not unusual nowadays to be approached by those who want to use barter exchange as a commodity in doing business with you, particularly if you're in a service business. If potential customers do not show up at your doorstep, you must go out and find them. That's when the networking starts.

Do not hesitate to speak with other entrepreneurs about the feasibility and desirability of bartering with them. They could refuse, but you have nothing to lose. They will have gotten to know about your merchandise and/or services. If you are turned down by someone you'd like to barter with, be certain you give that individual your business card anyway, along with a card or brochure describing your offerings.

If you discover a person who is eager to barter with you, you have an ideal chance to display your merchandise and/or services. Treat him or her every bit as well as you do any customer who pays with currency. Let such people see how well you can serve them so that they will go on to obtain word-of-mouth sales for you with their friends, families, acquaintances, and business colleagues.

When dealing with your bartering friends you should give out as much information about yourself like cards and all as possible so that they can pass on the information about your products and services to their clients. It may be a good idea to give a little discount to their referrals. You must always remember the golden rule of getting referrals and that is to give referrals. If your barter exchange satisfies you make sure that you tell the others about it.
