Web Hosting Secrets

by Tem Balanco

Web hosts store your site on a computer with Internet access. When potential visitors are browsing online, they can then visit your site. This computer, known as a server, is similar in many ways to your home computer, but is put to specific uses by the web hosting company. The primary function of a server is to serve web sites, hence the name.

A web host has multiple servers which they utilize for web sites, that potentially can reach into thousands. Because of this, they typically have hi-speed connections which allows them to "rent space" to those individuals that want to post their websites to the World Wide Web.

Large companies have different methods for obtaining or allocating web services. Some companies employ their own web servers, whereas other companies rent server space from a dedicated web hosting firm, and then resell that space. In the latter case, it is the job of the web host to manage the company's accounts on the server.

There are different kinds of web-hosting setups and dependent upon your website and budget, any of these may be the right type. Bandwidth is always stated as a monthly limit in either MB or GB. This is the amount of actual data that can be transferred from the web server that holds your website, to the browser of the person who is looking at your website.

In case you happen to cross limits, you will either need to pay additional charges or your website will no longer remain accessible. The total number of web surfers visiting your website determines your bandwidth usage.

There are some web-hosting companies that offer unlimited bandwidth. This sounds like an amazing deal. The truth is that this is nothing but a lie and you should steer clear of web hosting companies that offer unlimited bandwidth. Bandwidth is a commodity that costs the web hosting company money- unlimited bandwidth is not only impossible, but would cost an unlimited amount of money. Finding the right web hosting company should be your primary plan.

Web hosting services consist of providing a server, which is like a computer, but it's always online, and set-up specifically to be accessed. Generally speaking, they have to be fast, since they host thousands of sites. Similar to an dealing with real estate, they rent out their space to users who need the space. Sometimes you're going to deal with a big company that owns all their servers, or sometimes you may deal with a smaller entity that rents its servers. There are lots of different plans depending on how you want to use your bandwidth, budgeting concerns, etc.
